Hello members. This was written last night, but was delayed until today by some technical issues. I haven't changed the text to reflect that, I trust you can glean the information without me delaying this announcement any longer.
Thanks,
Scott.

February 8, 2010

Today’s conference call was a great stride into the future for the UAMCC. After careful, thoughtful discussion, we moved to reinstate the membership of National Cleaning Expos. The reinstatement will be for a period of eight months from today’s date (2/8/10) and is intended as a step forward, rather than as a revisitation of the past. This is an opportunity for the UAMCC and for National Cleaning Expos to relate in a positive manner, with clean slates on all accounts.
This step was taken as part of the Directors’ commitment to put the past firmly behind us and to face the future squarely. We are confident that past needn’t be prophecy; that we can all progress, not in lockstep, but rather in broad consensus.
A second step in that direction was the decision to offer permanent banners space for sale on our site. A further announcement is forthcoming to inform everybody of the specifics. For now, we will be selling the space on a quarterly basis, open to members of the UAMCC only. This will not affect the rotating, free banners every vendor member is given as a benefit of membership and will bring needed revenue to the organization.
In a related discussion, the board has decided that the first sale of this product will be to George Podell of Hot and Mighty, in consideration of his inconvenience. The UAMCC understands the desire of our vendor members to advertise their wares and services to the contractor members. We know that permanent banners are useful tools toward that end, but we could not in good conscience allow the sale of that service before the Board had debated and come to an agreement on it. We can now offer George the remainder of the time until the seminar at a discounted rate, after that, sales will be competitively priced and open.
These steps can be the beginnings of a new direction, not just for the UAMCC, but also for the discussions around and about the UAMCC. Each was taken with the fullest regard for the good of the members. We believe these to be the right steps, down the correct path. This organization will survive and flourish on its own merit and that merit derives directly from the merits of the members. It bears repeating: Association is at least as much about the resources we bring as it is about the benefits we reap.
This brings us to the last important subject discussed today. We are still deciding on the best method for the UAMCC to pay our debt to Mr. Hedley. Without results, it is inappropriate to divulge the content of those discussions yet, but they will continue this Thursday morning. Positive steps are underway, and we ask the members to allow us the latitude and time needed to make substantive efforts.
Many have expressed a desire to be a part of the solution to this, and we thank you all. Rest assured that it is possible to make any donation you wish to the UAMCC. As a matter of record, it is also possible to earmark your contribution toward a specific purpose. This is the law, and a generally accepted practice, but we would ask you to give at least some consideration to putting your contribution, if any, toward the General Fund. This will allow us to use it as needed, when needed. In cases of emergency, should they occur, it will be useful to have the flexibility required to quickly adapt.
Today’s call was a long, productive one. We have acted to put the worst of our past firmly behind us, and to face the future. We fully intend to take the lessons learned and to proceed for contractors, by contractors. As always, we have striven to be guided by the simple question, “Is this good for the contractor?”
We believe the answer, as far as today’s acts are concerned, is a solid “Yes!”
