2010 UAMCC National Convention

Orlando was great. (Something a little closer to the airport would be nice.) Destination cities are best for airfares, though there's a lot to be said for a location within driving distance of the majority of the attendees.

Eric already commented but I gotta put in my .02

A cruise to the Caribbean would be awesome! Unfortunately I agree that attendance might not be as great. A passport would be an added expense to some people. On the flip side, it would be a mini tropical vacation, and that is enticing!

I REALLY loved Florida, especially during October. The weather was absolutely wonderful. The World Marriott was exquisite, but if they are not willing to cut us a deal then maybe we could find another hotel in Orlando that would.

New Orleans is a thumbs down for me. Good for smaller gatherings maybe, but not for THE convention. Also not really my idea of a family oriented town. After Convention 1, we decided that our son would accompany us to the rest! He had a blast.

Look for the best value. I looked at some convention halls, many are not like the Marriott World Center, The Marriott owned the hotel and the huge convention area, many convention halls may have hotel attached or close by, but are owned separately, so you may not get as good of a total package deal

There's a ton of places, I really would like another venue like Orlando World Center, it just felt good, like a true grand convention. The staff was awesome. I liked how they didn't get mad when all the contractors brought their own beer & wine out near the lounge patios. A lot of places wouldn't have allowed that, they want to sell their own booze. The staff all around really were helpful. What ever is picked I hope its in a cool place like this years

Just have to be wise with what place is picked

Nashville.... I24, I65 and I40 all converge here. Southwest flies here and most hotels have shuttles from the airport. Plus it is close to me.... LOL You could swing a paddle boat cruise for some dinners or get togethers aboard the general jackson. Lots of different possibilities. I like the idea of moving it around the country. 12 hour drive from dallas, tampa, travers city. I know I have driven them.

One year we need to do King Salmon, AK during the salmon run.... LOL

Just read jl post..... Opryland has all that you are talking about. Plus Gaylord entertainment also owns the general jackson.

I like Louisville also.... Centrally located and most everything in KY is not that expensive (unless you want me to wash your house!). Casino 20 minutes away. I65, I64, I71 all intersect there. Lots to do for night life in the immediate downtown area. Depending on time of year, Kentucky Kingdom (six flags park) will be open.

Take a hard look at Louisville(17th largest city in US). Lexington won't be good for 2010 as we are hosting the WORLD Equestrian games and you won't be able to find a venue. It is the first time these games have EVER been hosted in the USA.

The Galt House looks like an awesome venue

One thing I think we need to keep is the spirit of things.... the quality of the resort/ hotel for example. The atmosphere and feeling of being a first class convention is another.

I would love the convention to be in Hawaii at the Hilton on the big Island

This is a GREAT resort. No real reason to leave. I took my family there for 3 weeks. HAD A BLAST. Family NEVER board. Daughter was almost 2 and son almost 7 at the time. Sea turtles swim in the lagoon along with all the fish. You take a boat to your room. Beautiful Golf Course next to the ocean. Life is good.

However, I now that some/most would not be able to make this. So I vote for the cruise.

Sept 25-Oct 10 Nowhere in Ky will be good before or during those dates.
Nashville could work....... If Ky is better I would wait till the last week of Oct.....The stranglers will still be around...Predations are 300,000 people for like 11,000 hotel rooms in Lexington Ky.

I like the idea of somewhere in the northeast. This is where the lion's share of the UAMCC contractors are. This would allow for more feet on the ground during the planning stages and have more available to pitch in. There are great venue's here and always something to do in the areas outside of the hotel.....just my $0.02, Mike.

Theres a ton of places that would be great. my only concern with the Northeast is price. Also a lot of the convention places have union workers, I am in no way against unions I was in a great union for years, but in the convention arena I think it would add a ton of $$$$$ to the cost but I think many venues should be looked at

Jeff you crack me up

(now back on the subject)
This years convention was GREAT for me because of everything I learned NOT because of the location. Dont get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with the location but I go to learn
