2010 UAMCC National Convention

I spoke with our convention planner this morning. She has multiple bids out for the UAMCC in preparation of our 2010 Convention. The Marriott in Orlando came to her with a price increase in the rooms ($130-$140) for us. Naturally she said that this was unacceptable and is waiting to hear back from them on the "adjustment". Beyond that, Deb (convention planner) has also reached out to other facilities in Orlando, New Orleans and I think Lexington for price quotes and comparison.

She is also going to look at a Cruise Convention possibility with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruise Lines. This would be a 3-4 day convention cruise for the UAMCC. Port departures will either be Miami, New Orleans or Galveston. Port of calls will be in the Caribbean somewhere. She is just checking this out for us to consider.

She anticipates having something to us by mid-December for us to look at and consider.

Comments are welcomed!

Crusie is nice, but it depends on what time of the year.hurricane season hits the Carribean in Sept/Oct...also depends on price.
and do you really want to be stuck on a boat with everyone for 4 days,LOL,hahaha

Cruise would always be nice, but I think unrealistic. I think it would really limit the number of contractors and vendors that would show
Orlando, NOLA, Ky anywhere thats a nice venue would be good. The Marriott again would be fine too

Lets see what the event planner has to offer and/or suggest! Time can only tell....

We have tried a cruise. It failed miserably. Out of a possible few hundred 15 showed up. As far as room price, we are paying $179.00 in Phoenix next January with PDCA. Qualiy rooms are not cheep. If possible, could we send out a blast e mail to members only for their opinion? Thank you.

Terry,
I couldnt agree more...I heard so many difference of opinions in Orlando. Some say do it there again. Some say do it in a cheaper area. etc etc etc.
This should be a MEMBERS vote....

IMHO, please not a Cruise, :pukey: couldnt find the thumbs down thingy. I dont think you would get the attendance. And there are contactors which want to drop in for one day. Orlando, NOLA, San Antonio, Atlanta, etc. A land based destination would bring attendees and would be more practical.

Yeah a cruise may be pushing it a bit. Then again a main event at sea with a "kick the ED in the nuts" would probably boost attendance.

I'm with Michael T's thoughts on this except more centrally located. Of all the places mentioned Lexington would be my preference. Knoxville, Memphis come to mind also.

Memphis doesn't sound bad, or St. Louis has a couple casino complexs that are very nice. The Ameristar which is out of town a little and the Luminere Place which is right in down town with tons of things to do around it. St. Louis would be pretty center of the country too.

Thanks Curtis...there have been some recommendations for St. Louis!

This is an email that was sent today from one of our members:

Hi UAMCC

If you are looking at convention sites that are not "destinations" unto
themselves (like Lexington), perhaps you should consider where I live, King of
Prussia/Valley Forge, PA. It is the commercial area of suburban
Philadelphia and is located less than 3 hours from DC and 2 hours from Baltimore
and New York, so you could get a significant contingent of people that do not
need to fly in. Choices include the Dolce Valley Forge, the Scanticon, the
Raddison, and the Crowne Plaza. On the weekends, you might be able to get
a good price. The downside would be that King of Prussia does not have
any rail line so you have to have a car or shuttle to get there from the
airport, though buses are available to downtown Philadelphia. Airport would
have direct flights to most major US destination.

In Philadelphia would probably be too expensive. Alternatively, you could
consider Moorestown, NJ on the other end of Philadelphia, that is located
right on the New Jersey Turnpike with more direct NY-DC access, or a hotel
at the Philadelphia airport, also having good access to downtown and I-95.
Just thought you'd might want to consider it. Baltimore area would also
have similar pricing near BWI airport.

Or there also is New Brunswick, NJ. The Hyatt New Brunswick has direct
rail access to Newark Airport and New York (_www.njtransit.com_
(http://www.njtransit.com) ), as well as Amtrak Northeast Corridor, and road access
to NJ
Turnpike-Interstate 95. The Hilton New Brunswick, NJ is on the Turnpike
and you can drive those places. Other areas closer to New York likely are
above your price point, but you could always looki

King of Prussia itself is home to Valley Forge park (not the worlds best
attraction, but something) and of course the sites of downtown as well as
easy access to those other places. Of course, its not the same thing as a
destination convention (which many probably prefer), but if you are looking
for a convention near lots of people, that might be your ticket.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck
