New Law

I don't smoke but I think the no smoking laws are a load of BS. A business owner should have the right to decide what legal activities they allow on their own property. If I own a bar or restaurant and want to allow smoking that is my business. If non-smokers don't patronize me than that's my problem. I agree on the ban in public areas but not in a private enterprise.

Its a good law. One of my favorite restaurants was dingy and yellow and smelled of dank smoke. Now that they have gone smoke free, they cleaned up and it smells fresh. I used to enjoy a smoke after dinner as much as the next nicotine junky, but it wasnt that big of a deal to wait until after dinner.

I think restaurants/bars secretly wanted this. It allowed them to expand their business to having families frequent their establishment - and set a level playing field at the same time. If one business went smoke free in order to gain families for more business - it would lose it's 'smoking' base customers. Now smokers can't go anywhere else. I know a lot of restaurants with bars that do a lot of business now. Now throw in all the laws back in the 80's and 90's that made bars culpable for the actions of it's customers after they leave. And now what you have is a very tame bar atmosphere, where you can have families sitting right near the bar areas and not feel like their children are being exposed to 'lewd' behavior. I think it's been a win/win for restaurants/bars.

Unable to smoke in California for like 5 years now, maybe more... Just raised the tax on tobacco as well.

Also, New law I heard, 3 DUI's and your Lic is revoked FOR LIFE !!! You will never again be able to drive in the State. Also, idf you EVER had a DUI in another state, it can be used against you in California no matter how long it has been.

Hands CANNOT be on your phone when driving as well.

When you see any ER vehicles on the side of the road, YOU MUST PULL OVER TO THE NEXT LANE away from the shoulder of the ER vehicle. If a cop is giving a ticket, you must move 1 lane away from the officer "WHEN SAFE TO DO SO ". You can be ticketed.

The morale of the story...If you plan to screw up ....don't move to Cali!!! cause the cops will get ya!!

Any update on this? Thanks!
Looks to be the business' is doing just fine with the change. It has cost them a little money because of this change but in all the business is the same if not better and improved. You have got a cleaner environment for one and now most places have installed outside eating areas to still keep the smoking customers happy. But in all i think this is for the better and at first the business' was hurting from a result of the law but now with time everyone has adjusted and back to business as usual

Complete insanity. The sheep won't realize it till restaurants are only allowed to serve green beans and broiled chicken under penalty of law.

You people appear to have no comprehension of what the word liberty means.

I am ashamed to have been born in this generation.

lib·er·ty /ˈlibərtē/

Noun 1. The state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life.

Many men lost their lives fighting for this concept.

Today we can't discipline our children, discuss politics from the pulpit, own homes or property free and clear, defend our families, or even buy the drink of our choice in the size of our choice.

Who bears the fault for this?

You do.

There are always a number of socialist psychos waiting in the wings to enslave us and criminalize everything they disagree with. But they would get nowhere without the help of the uneducated "conservatives" among us who refuse to lift a finger to do some research to learn what the term "Liberty" means.

The law is firm alright. It was written over 200 years ago. It's time to revive it.
