Default UAMCC California Drought info for all Power Washing Contractors

After a week on the road talking with the Water Board, some California contractors, the news media and some local enforcement we have come up with a Technical Bulletin for ALL contractors in California.

The Water Board gave an across the board exemption for health and safety cleaning, but would not give us specific definitions of what health and safety was, but rather left it to us to decide in good faith what contaminants need to be cleaned for health and safety.

It is pretty simple. The contaminants listed in the technical bulletin are well known health and safety contaminants and situations.

Local authorities also have leeway to make their own restrictions. We thought it best to go straight to the state and document the state restrictions to make them available to pull out of the truck should there be any enforcement contacts to help stave off any tickets or fines that don't follow the state restrictions.

Here is the Technical Bulletin. Keep this in your truck and show it to anyone who thinks what we are cleaning might be illegal. Keep in mind cleaning for aesthetic reasons alone is PROHIBITED during this nine month restriction. Just don't do it. However, if there are contaminants that are health and safety related, go ahead, you should have no problems.

This Technical Bulletin is free to download for ALL California Power Washing contractors whether they are members of the UAMCC or not or even if they are members of other orgs. We are all in this together. When it comes to Droughts, Environmental, or Safety issues the well being of the contractors comes first.

Print out a bunch of copies of this brochure. It will help with enforcement and help with anyone who comes up and thinks you are wasting water. No matter what state you are in, this brochure can help when droughts occur. They cost about 70 cents each at office max or you can print your own if you have access to a color printer. They look best with 60# or heavier paper.

This information could not have been obtained and published for contractors if it weren't for the California Environmental team, California Contractors, Ron Musgraves, Scott Stone, Carlos Gonzales, Jerry McMillan, the UAMCC BOD and others who helped. (and Shelly and Fayth who put up with me on the road)

This is a team effort. The team as a group believed this was bigger than just another situation where contractors may lose work, but was, rather, a golden opportunity to work towards correcting the false impression that Professional Power Washers waste water.

The fact is our industry has always conserved water. We just never got together to get the word out so when droughts come we always have to go on the defensive.

Hopefully this is just the beginning of changing the way the public and authorities think about our industry. We are an asset to our communities.

Thanks Tony for all the hard work. It says something about the UAMCC and it's members that this info is available even to those who would like to see this org fail.

Thanks to everyone involved! What a great team and effort on your parts to make this available. You guys rock.

Battery Acid Stains should also be listed on the mandatory clean-up list as they will continue to grow until they reach the storm drains.

Craig, I don't know why we failed to put that in there. I don't think it will be too much of an issue to convince anyone that battery acid stains need to be cleaned up before they reach the storm drain.

Our instructions from the Water Board rep was to make "good faith" determinations and that's what we should all do. Many contaminants didn't make that basic list.
